An ETA (European Technical Approval) is a favourable technical assessment of a product's fitness for its intended end use and, therefore, one way in which CE marking in accordance with the Construction Products Directive can, in some cases, be obtained. ETAs are issued by one of the national Member Bodies of EOTA (European Organisation for Technical Approvals) and are either issued individually to a given manufacturer's product under rules laid down in a Common Understanding of Assessment Method (CUAP) document or, where there is more than one manufacturer, EOTA drafts an ETAG (European Technical Approvals Guideline) and individual ETAs are issued according to this.
Manufacturers seeking an ETA are advised, in the first instance, to contact one of the EOTA national Member Bodies (for example BBA in the UK). However, questions may arise on more general points, such as whether a product is already covered by an existing harmonised European Standard.
APSR Associates can advise you, as a manufacturer, on matters such as this and liaise with the ETA issuing body. Contact us via our Consultancy or Advocacy Services. |
